Farooq-e-Azam was sworn in as an advisor to the interim government.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered the oath of office at 11am at Bangabhaban on Tuesday (13 August).

Farooq-e-Azam, who was unable to take the oath earlier due to his stay in the United States, returned to the country on Sunday night.

A distinguished naval commando who played a key role in Operation Jackpot in Chittagong in 1971, Farooq-e-Azam hails from Haathazari, Chattogram.

His appointment comes in the wake of the dramatic fall of Sheikh Hasina's government on 5 August, leading to nationwide chaos and the formation of the interim government led by Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus on 8 August.

Prior to this, 14 advisers, including the chief advisor, had taken their oaths on 8 August, with two additional advisors sworn in on 11 August.
