China has extended a warm welcome to the formation of Bangladesh’s new interim government while expressing its commitment to enhancing communication and cooperation between the two nations.

In a regular press briefing on Friday (9 August), a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry responded to a query regarding the recent developments in Bangladesh.

When asked about China's stance on the interim government, which was sworn in on 8 August and is led by Nobel laureate Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus as the chief adviser, the spokesperson stated: "China is aware of the formation of the interim government in Bangladesh and has welcomed this development."

"As a matter of principle, China opposes interference in the internal affairs of any country. We respect Bangladesh's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, as well as the path of development chosen freely by the people of Bangladesh. We remain committed to our policy of maintaining strong neighbourly relations and friendship with the people of Bangladesh," he added.

The spokesperson further emphasised the longstanding and profound friendship between China and Bangladesh, noting that China greatly values this relationship.

The spokesperson added that China is prepared to work with Bangladesh to further advance bilateral communication and cooperation in various sectors, as well as to strengthen the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.
