Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus paid tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War at the National Martyrs' Memorial in Savar. Accompanying him were other advisers of the interim government.
He visited the National Martyrs' Memorial at 10am on Friday (9 August).
In his address, Dr Yunus, after assuming his duties, pledged to present a new Bangladesh.
He stated, "With the dawn of a new day, citizens will experience democracy, justice, human rights, freedom of expression without fear, and the government's assistance in ensuring a comfortable life for all. This is the goal of our government. We seek your support in achieving this vision."
Reflecting on the triumph over the autocratic regime, Dr Yunus remarked, "The entire world is now amazed and applauding Bangladesh. Well done, Bangladesh! Well done, the students and people of Bangladesh. We aspire to take this achievement even further."
Emphasising the importance of harnessing the strength of the youth for a prosperous Bangladesh, the chief adviser further added, "Nothing is impossible for our students and the people. Our youth are committed to turning the impossible into the possible. If we remain united, steer clear of destructive activities, and create an environment of freedom for all, our victory is inevitable."
He concluded his speech by seeking the Almighty's blessings.
On Thursday (8 August) the Cabinet Division published the list of 17 advisers, with Dr Yunus appointed as the chief adviser of the interim government.
Later, at approximately 9:15pm, President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered the oath of office to Dr Yunus.
Subsequently, the other advisers also took their oaths.
