Nobel laureate economist Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus has returned to Bangladesh from Paris, amid the recent political upheaval in the country.
Arriving on an Emirates Airlines flight, Dr Yunus landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 2pm on Thursday (8 August).
He is set to take on the role of the head of the interim government.
However, it remains uncertain whether the other advisers to the interim government will assume their responsibilities simultaneously or at a later date.
The nation has been in a state of unrest recently due to the quota reform movement, which saw widespread protests.
On 5 August, facing intense pressure from the movement, Sheikh Hasina fled the country, leading to the collapse of the Awami League government.
Chief of Army Staff General Wakar has expressed hope that the swearing-in of the interim government today will restore normalcy.
