Dr Yunus acquitted in labour law violation case

Earlier this year, on 1 January, Dr. Yunus, along with three others, was sentenced to six months in prison and fined Tk30,000 for violating labour laws.

The newly announced Chief Adviser to the next interim government, Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus has been acquitted in a case filed by the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE) for violating labour laws.

Judge M.A. Awal of the Labor Appellate Tribunal issued the verdict on Wednesday (7 August). Abdullah Al Mamun represented Dr. Yunus in court.

Earlier this year, on 1 January, Dr. Yunus, along with three others, was sentenced to six months in prison and fined Tk30,000 for violating labour laws.

The other three convicted were former Managing Director of Grameen Telecom Ashraf-ul-Hassan, Director Nur Jahan Begum, and Md. Shahjahan.
