BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been released by a presidential decree.
The decision came after a meeting between President Mohammed Shahabuddin, the heads of the three armed forces, leaders from various political parties, representatives from civil society, and leaders of the anti-discrimination student movement, according to an official statement issued by the President's Press Wing on Tuesday (6 August).
The statement detailed that Khaleda Zia's release is part of a broader initiative that began on 1 July, aimed at liberating those detained during the anti-discrimination movement and various legal cases.
Many individuals have already been released as part of this initiative, it added.
