Many areas in the capital Dhaka are carrying the scars of vandalism and arson from the clashes amid the nationwide protests from Sunday (4 August) that have left at least 98 people dead.

Visiting many parts of the city, presented particularly eerie sights on Monday (5 August).

On the road from Science Lab to Simanta Square, vehicles navigate a single lane, avoiding broken bricks.

Showroom of a popular clothing brand was set ablaze on Sunday afternoon.

The entire building now appears as an old, disused structure from decades past, charred and desolate.

Smoke was visible until 8:30am on Monday.

Curious onlookers could be seen taking photographs of the devastation.

The scene at the Science Laboratory intersection is grim, with the remains of a burnt police box scattered across the road.

In the New Market area, police are rigorously checking identification cards, turning back anyone without a curfew pass.

On-site observations reveal a heavy military presence in the Katabon area, with the army positioned alertly with Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs).

The road leading from here to Shahbagh has been blocked.

Police and military vigilance is evident throughout the city.

Despite the chaos, CNG-powered autorickshaws and rickshaws continue to ply the streets.

Anti-Discrimination Student Movement has announced a "Long March to Dhaka" as part of their non-cooperation movement demanding the government's resignation.

Initially planned for 6 August, the march has been advanced to 5 August, as announced by one of the movement's coordinators, Asif Mahmud, on Sunday afternoon.

He stated, "After assessing the situation, an urgent decision was made to hold the 'March to Dhaka' a day earlier, urging students and the public nationwide to set out for Dhaka on Monday."
