Yunus must meet NBR claim of Tk666 crore: High Court

On 11 March, the Appellate Division directed the High Court to resolve the tax evasion case involving Tk666 crore by Grameen Kalyan within three months.

The High Court has dismissed a writ petition challenging the legality of the National Board of Revenue's (NBR) demand for Tk666 crore in taxes from Nobel Laureate and former Managing Director of Grameen Bank Dr Muhammad Yunus, requiring Dr Yunus to pay the amount.

A High Court bench comprising Justice Mohammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar and Justice Sardar Md Rashed Jahangir issued the verdict on Sunday (4 August), rejecting the rule previously issued in this regard.

Barrister Abdullah Al Mamun represented Dr Yunus in the court.
