At least two persons were killed and several others were injured in a clash between protestors and Awami League men in Munshiganj.

“Two persons were brought dead and many other injured are being treated at the hospital. The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately,” said Munshiganj General Hospital Superintendent Abu Hena Mohammad Jamal.

Protesters blocked the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Manikganj to press for their one-point demand.

Students from various schools and colleges in the district occupied the highway at around 10am on Sunday (4 August).

Witnesses said students holding placards gathered at the Manra area of the Dhaka-Aricha highway. Guardians joined the students in solidarity, also taking to the highway.

Although the blockade halted general vehicular traffic, the protesting students allowed all emergency service vehicles to pass.

Ashraful Islam Raju, one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination movement in Manikganj, stated, "We are conducting our protest peacefully to fulfil our demands. This movement will continue until our demands are met."
