Forty-two HSC examinees arrested by police in connection with the violence surrounding the anti-discrimination student movement have been granted bail by the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Rashidul Alam issued the bail order on Friday (2 August).
The defendants' lawyer, Md. Saidul Islam, confirmed the matter to the media.
Earlier in the afternoon, a press release from the Ministry of Law announced that a bail hearing for the arrested HSC examinees, who were detained amid the ongoing violence or sabotage incidents related to the quota reform movement, would be held at the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court around 3:30pm.
On Thursday, (1 August), the Ministry of Home Affairs stated that if any of the recently detained individuals are current HSC examinees, they would be provided with legal assistance for their release on bail upon submitting their exam admit cards and relevant documents.
Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) candidates from around a hundred colleges across Bangladesh announced on Wednesday their decision to boycott exams until all people arrested in connection with the quota reform protests are released.
