The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent exams which have been postponed till 10 August citing inevitable reasons will resume from 11 August.

The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education issued a notification in this regard on Thursday (1 August).

The HSC exams, which began on 30 June, were initially postponed on multiple occasions due to the escalating violence and unrest in the country amid quota refrom protests.

Over 14 lakh from nine general education boards, the technical board, and the madrasa board were due to sit the HSC exams this year.

However, the ongoing protests, which have turned violent at times, have forced authorities to prioritise student safety.

The quota system, which allocates a certain percentage of government jobs and university places to specific groups, has been a contentious issue in Bangladesh for many years.

Students have been protesting against what they perceive as unfair and discriminatory practices within the system.

The indefinite postponement of the HSC exams is likely to have a significant impact on student's academic careers and future prospects.

Education experts have expressed concern about the potential long-term consequences of the disruptions to the education system.
