Torrential rain since midnight has led to extensive flooding in several low-lying areas of Chattogram.
The district's Meteorological Office reported 114.6 millimetres of rain within the 24 hours preceding 9:00am on Thursday (1 August).
It also indicated that the downpour may persist for another 24 hours due to active monsoon winds.
In response to the severe weather, Chattogram Sea Port has been advised to hoist caution signal no 3.
Met office also highlighted the heightened risk of hill slides for the 6,558 families residing on the slopes of 26 hills in the city.
Despite warnings from district administration officials urging vulnerable families to evacuate from precarious structures, many residents have reportedly ignored these advisories.
The persistent rainfall has rendered intercity mobility particularly challenging, with key areas such as Chawkbazar, Bakalia, Agrabad, Halishahar, GEC Intersection, Muradpur, Bahaddarhat, Kapasgola, Shulakbahar, Chandgaon, and Katalganj remaining submerged.
The floodwaters have significantly impacted transportation with office goers noting the scarcity of vehicles and long waits.
Many seen wading through knee-deep water on KB Aman Ali Road, expressing frustration over their inability to find transport.
