Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has accused extremist groups of orchestrating acts of violence amid the quota reform protests, claiming they were responsible for the killings that took place during the demonstrations.
"Quota reform movement had been exploited by militants to carry out acts of violence and destruction," the premier said speaking at a discussion organised by the Krishak League on Thursday (1 August).
"These militants have not only killed people but also targeted essential services," she added.

"They have used the quota issue as a cover to create chaos and spread fear," the premier further said.
PM Hasina's remarks come in the wake of widespread protests against the quota system, which has led to violent clashes between students and law enforcement forces.
The demonstrations have resulted in the deaths of several people.
