The High Court hearing on a petition seeking order not to fire on the students during their demonstrations and the release of six quota reform movement coordinators has been postponed due to the judge's illness

The scheduled hearing on a petition seeking directives against firing on protesters and the release of six coordinators of the anti-quota movement from Detective Branch custody will not proceed on Wednesday (31 July).

It has been reported that Justice SM Masud Hossain Dolon has taken leave due to illness, resulting in the postponement of the hearing.

Consequently, the High Court bench, presided over by Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice SM Masud Hossain Dolon, will not convene today.

In anticipation of the hearing, lawyers and journalists gathered at the High Court bench from the morning.

However, they were informed that the junior judge was on leave, leading to the Division Bench not sitting.

Representing the petitioners in court were Barrister Sara Hossain, Advocate ZI Khan Panna, Barrister Anik R Haque, and Advocate Manzur Al Matin Pritom.

On behalf of the state were Attorney General AM Amin Uddin, Additional Attorney General SM Munir, Additional Attorney General Sheikh Md Morshed, and Additional Attorney General Barrister Mehedi Hasan Chowdhury.

The petition hearings held on 29 and 30 July sought directives against firing on protesters and the release of six coordinators of the anti-quota movement from Detective Branch custody.

Earlier, the petition was filed by Supreme Court lawyers Manzur Al Matin Pritom and Ainunnahar Siddika Lipi, seeking directives to prevent the firing on protesters and to release the detained coordinators.

The Cabinet Secretary, Home Secretary, Inspector General of Police, and Army Chief, among others, were made respondents in the petition.
