The United Nations said it has received credible evidence of the excessive use of force by security personnel and human rights violations against the protesting students amid the quota reform movement in Bangladesh.

"In response, UN Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed deep concern," said UN Secretary-General's Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric during a briefing on Monday (29 July).

During the briefing, he read a statement regarding the situation in Bangladesh and then proceeded to a question-and-answer session.

In his statement, he reiterated the need for a swift, transparent, and impartial investigation into all forms of violence and called for accountability for those responsible.
