Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel announced today that the current situation in Bangladesh does not support the reopening of educational institutions.
Speaking at a press briefing after a meeting with university teachers regarding pension issues, held at the Ministry of Education's conference room, the Minister indicated that reopening schools is not feasible at this time.
"The situation is not conducive for reopening educational institutions. We need to consult with the relevant authorities before making any decisions," he said.
Minister Nowfel addressed ongoing student protests, noting that while some students have taken to the streets, the Ministry currently lacks specific information about the scale or nature of these protests.
"We do not have detailed information about the protests at the moment. Once we have more data, we will provide updates accordingly," he said.
When questioned about whether the Cabinet had discussed the reopening of primary schools, the Minister declined to comment, citing confidentiality of Cabinet discussions.
"I cannot comment on what was discussed in the Cabinet meeting. Such matters are not for public discussion," he added.
The briefing was attended by key figures including Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, Prime Minister’s Advisor on Education and Culture, and Nurul Islam Nahid, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Education and former Education Minister, alongside other Ministry officials.
