Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has assured that no innocent person will be harassed and that actions are being taken against terrorists based on specific information and evidence in response to the recent violence surrounding the quota reform movement.

Quader, also the Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, made this statement on Saturday (27 July) in response to comments made by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said in a statement issued on Friday (26 July) said "The illegal Awami League government is indiscriminately arresting leaders and activists from opposition parties, including the BNP, and ordinary citizens, to cover up its terrorist activities and failures,"

Condemning the statement, Obaidul Quader stated that a judicial committee has been formed to investigate the killings and mayhem.

He said that, in addition to the judicial probe committee, police are also investigating the killings and violence, ensuring that no incidents will be excluded from the investigation.

Quader said, “Mirza Fakhrul Islam is trying to give a political colour to the lawful actions against these terrorist forces by calling it a mass arrest. There are no mass arrests being made here. No innocent person will be subjected to any form of harassment.”

In the statement, Awami League General Secretary said, “BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is adopting various deceptive tactics to evade responsibility for terrorism, violence, and murder.”

“The armed cadres of BNP-Jamaat have carried out monstrous destruction and barbaric killings in different places, including Dhaka. Such destructive activities in independent Bangladesh are unprecedented and have left deep scars in the minds of the public. BNP-Jamaat and their associates cannot escape responsibility for this in any way. Their armed terrorist forces were on the ground with a deep conspiracy to commit mass killings.”

He said that the government has dealt with this massacre and destruction with utmost patience and restraint.

Obaidul Quader said that trained cadres of BNP-Jamaat gathered in Dhaka from all over the country on a mission of destruction and murder.

“These terrorists wreaked havoc and looted various state establishments including the Bangladesh Television-BTV building, Shetu Bhaban, Disaster Management Building, BRTA Building, Metro Rail Stations, Elevated Expressway and Flyover Toll Plazas, Directorate General of Health Services Building, various government hospitals, police stations, and police boxes,” he said.

Obaidul Quader further said that Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s call for national unity is a unity of anti-liberation and anti-independence forces, a unity of extremism, militancy, and terrorists.
