State Minister for Information Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak said broadband connections, including residential ones, will be restored across the country by tonight.

Additionally, mobile data users will have their internet connections restored by Monday, said the state minister during a press briefing on the trial run of internet services at the BTRC building in Agargaon on Wednesday (24 July).

He said, "Broadband internet service will be restored nationwide starting tonight. We will monitor the situation throughout Thursday and then decide on a full-scale launch. Our goal is to ensure uninterrupted internet service."

Internet services had been suspended across the country since 18 July as student protests for quota reform took a violent turn claiming nearly 200 lives.

Palak said, “The internet service was disrupted due to damage caused by fires set by miscreants. In this situation, we have been working to restore the internet system as quickly as possible.”

Earlier, Imdadul Hoque, President of the Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB), had also indicated that internet connections to homes could be restored by tonight.

Meanwhile, after five days, broadband internet was reactivated in a limited capacity on Tuesday night (July 23). However, access to various social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, remains unavailable even with the restored broadband internet.
