With the situation in the country beginning to stabilise, all export-oriented garment factories reopened on Wednesday (24 July).

According to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), workers' ID cards will be considered valid passes for movement during the curfew.

The decision was announced following an urgent meeting on Tuesday (23 July) between the Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and representatives from the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).

The BGMEA has confirmed that the factories will operate as usual, and workers will use their ID cards as curfew passes.

Special units of the industrial police, along with other law enforcement agencies, will ensure the safety of the garment factories in Dhaka and surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has provided new guidelines regarding the ongoing nationwide curfew.

He stated that on Wednesday and Thursday (24 and 25 July), the curfew will remain in place in Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj, and Narsingdi. However, it will be relaxed from 10am to 5pm.

Decisions regarding curfews in other districts will be made by the respective district administrations.

The curfew was initially imposed in response to the violent quota reform protests, leading to a government-declared public holiday on Sunday (21 July) and Monday (22 July).

This holiday was later extended to include Tuesday (23 July) as well.
