Clashes erupted between quota reform protesters, Bangladesh Chhtara League (BCL) activists and police in the Jatrabari area of the capital.

The clashes initially centred around Jatrabari and later spread to the Azimpur and Rayarbagh areas at around 11am on Thursday (18 July).

Two pedestrians were reportedly injured by police firing during the confrontation.

Witnesses report a lockdown-like situation due to the "Complete Shutdown" programme by protesters, preventing any vehicular movement into or out of Dhaka.

Even rickshaws and motorcycles are not being allowed to ply, causing severe inconvenience to commuters, especially office-goers.

Pedestrians are seen walking to their destinations as major roads remain blocked, particularly the Mayor Hanif Flyover area where barricades are restricting vehicle access, leading to significant traffic jams.

Goods-laden vehicles are notably affected, alongside buses and CNG-run autorickshaws.

On Wednesday evening (17 July), clashes erupted in the same area when Awami League and allied groups, and police clashed with the protesters.

Protesters reportedly set fire to toll plazas on the flyover section of Mayor Hanif Flyover, resulting in at least 6 gunshot injuries, including one fatality.
