A major traffic disruption ensued as students from at least 15 educational institutions in Safipur, Mauchak, and surrounding areas of Gazipur marched towards the Chandura bus terminal on the Dhaka-Tangail highway.
The protest, sparked by recent incidents of violence and fatalities during quota reform demonstrations, aimed to demand justice and a definitive response from authorities across the country.
The students gathered in front of traffic police and highway police boxes in Chandura, effectively halting all vehicular movement on the crucial Dhaka-Tangail and Chandura-Nabinagar roads on Thursday (18 July).
Law enforcement officials appeared visibly unsettled by the presence of the students but reported no incidents of violence so far.
However, the protest has caused a nearly two-hour disruption in traffic along these routes, significantly impacting the local environment.
Present at the scene were Kalikoir Upazila Executive Officer Kaushar Ahmed, Highway Police, and Kalikoir Police from the Gazipur region.
Speaking on the incident, Shahadat Hossain, an officer from the Naogaon Highway Police Station, said that the students had gathered in Chandura area to protest.
