A clash erupted between police forces and students in the vicinity of Dhaka's Notre Dame College.
Tear gas shells and sound grenades were used by police as the clash began amidst ongoing demonstrations on Thursday (18 July).
Students sought shelter in nearby alleys as a substantial contingent of police and RAB personnel positioned themselves in front of Notre Dame College.
The incident unfolded amid protests demanding quota reforms in government jobs.
Protest leaders, including Asif Mahmud, one of the coordinators of the anti-quota movement, announced plans for a nationwide shutdown on Thursday to press their demands for a violence-free campus and reforms.
Clashes have ensued in Badda, Jatrabari, and Mohakhali areas in the capital, but the Dhaka University area, which has been tense for several days, remained relatively calm.
