All government primary schools, child welfare Trust-run primary schools, and bureau of non-formal Education learning centres within the city corporation areas of the 8 divisional cities will remain closed until further notice.

Ministry of Primary and Mass Education issued a press release announcing the decision on Wednesday (17 July).

"The decision has been made to ensure the safety of young children in light of the ongoing unrest in the country," Ministry of Primary and Mass Education Senior Information Officer Mahbubur Rahman Tuhin said.

On Tuesday (16 July), all secondary and higher secondary educational institutions, including polytechnic institutes were ordered to remain closed until further notice in the wake of widespread protests by students against the quota system in government jobs and the clashes.

"In consideration of the safety of school and college-going students, all secondary and higher secondary educational institutions and polytechnic institutes under the Ministry of Education will remain closed until further notice," said Abul Khayer, public relations officer at the Ministry of Education.

Earlier, the University Grants Commission (UGC) announced a closure of all public and private universities until further notice considering the issue of students' safety against the background of the quota reform movement.

A press release, signed by UGC secretary Dr Ferdous Zaman, said academic activities of all public, and private universities, medical, textile, and engineering colleges affiliated to the university and other colleges will remain shut until further notice.
