The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent exams scheduled for Thursday (18 July) across all education boards in Bangladesh have been postponed.

The new dates for the exams will be announced later, said Professor Tapan Kumar Sarkar, president of the Bangladesh Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee and Chairman of Dhaka Education Board.

The postponement was confirmed in a statement issued today (16 July), which also reassured that other exams will continue as scheduled.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has issued a directive to close all educational institutions, including schools, colleges, madrasas, technical institutions, and polytechnic institutes, until further notice.

The ministry stated that the decision was made to ensure the safety of students amid ongoing unrest.

Protests demanding reforms to the quota system in government jobs have led to violent clashes in several regions.

At least, six individuals were reported killed in confrontations in Dhaka, Chittagong, and Rangpur on 16 July.
