Law Minister Anisul Huq has said that the government will not take any action bypassing the Supreme Court on the issue of quota reform.

Speaking at a seminar held at the National Press Club on Tuesday (16 July), the Law Minister said that once an issue reaches the court, the government awaits the court's decision before taking any action.

"The government will respect the verdict of the apex court and will comply with its decision. The government will do nothing regarding the quota issue without the Supreme Court's decision," he said.

Anisul Huq explained that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina abolished the quota system in 2018. Following this, seven to eight children of freedom fighters filed a case in the High Court. Those currently protesting the quota issue did not initially approach the High Court.

"When a High Court ruling was published in the newspapers, they began their protest. Instead of going to court, they chose to protest on the streets," said the Law Minister.

He added that spontaneous student protesters could present their case to the court through a lawyer, and the court will consider their arguments when resolving the primary petition.
