The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has appealed to a Dhaka court, seeking an order to seize additional assets belonging to former NBR official Matiur Rahman and his family members.

The assets include 137.28 decimals of land and establishments built on it in Tongi, Gazipur; 8,070 square feet of commercial space housing three parking lots in Bashundhara Residential Area, Dhaka; and shares worth Tk3.78 crore in 19 companies.

Customs official Matiur Rahman, who has been in the spotlight due to the controversy surrounding a Tk 15 lakh goat purchase since Eid-ul-Azha this year, has been removed from his posts as the president of the VAT tribunal of the National Board of Revenue and the directorship of state-owned Sonali Bank this week.

Additionally, a Dhaka court has barred Matiur Rahman, his wife Laila Kaniz, and their son Ahmed Taufiqur Rahman Arnab from traveling abroad.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has ordered all banks to freeze the beneficiary owner (BO) accounts of Matiur Rahman, his two wives Laila Kaniz and Shammi Akter (Shibli), and their children Iftima Rahman Madhuri, Mushfiqur Rahman Ifat, Farzana Rahman (Ipsita), Ahmed Taufiqur Rahman, and Irfanur Rahman Irfan for 30 days.
