Students from United International University have blocked a road in Natun Bazar, Dhaka, demanding reforms to the quota system in government jobs.

The blockade has led to a complete halt in traffic in Natun Bazar and the surrounding areas.

The blockade began around 1pm on Monday (15 July) when the students obstructed the road in front of the Natun Bazar signal.

"In response to the protest, a significant number of police officers have been deployed in the Natun Bazar area. They are working to bring the situation under control, said Assistant Police Commissioner Rajan Kumar Saha of the Badda Zone of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

He said, "Students from United International University are protesting by blocking the road. We are trying to convince them to clear the road and move away."
