The Traffic Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) anticipates higher-than-usual traffic congestion in the city this week.
"This week poses several challenges: three days of HSC exams, Rath Yatra on 15 July, and the Tazia procession for Ashura on 17 July. Additionally, the ongoing quota reform protests, heavy rainfall, and road excavations have exacerbated traffic congestion. All these factors combined present a significant challenge for managing Dhaka's traffic this week," said Joint Commissioner of Traffic (South) SM Mehedi Hasan during a weekly traffic update press conference at the DMP Media Center on Saturday (13 July).
To alleviate the difficulties faced by residents, the DMP's crime and traffic divisions will work in coordination, he added.
Mehedi Hasan said, "Traffic planning has been undertaken with these challenges in mind. All DMP members, including those from eight traffic divisions, are working tirelessly day and night to ensure smooth mobility for city dwellers."
Addressing a question about battery-operated rickshaws on main roads, the police official said there is no provision for auto-rickshaws to operate on Dhaka’s main roads.
