The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has fined nine establishments a total of Tk 147,000 after Aedes mosquito larvae were discovered on their premises.

Among the penalised entities are private real estate developers Concord Real Estate Ltd. and Rangs Properties Ltd.

Concord Real Estate Ltd. and Rangs Properties Ltd. were fined Tk 50,000 and Tk 30,000 respectively for larvae discovered at their construction sites on Dhanmondi Road 16.

Additionally, Genial Restaurant was fined Tk 50,000 for larvae found in stored water.

The fines were imposed as part of a city-wide initiative to prevent dengue and eliminate Aedes mosquito breeding grounds.

A total of 337 construction sites and establishments were inspected during the operation.

DSCC's mobile courts conducted inspections in several areas, including Kazi Alauddin Road, Haji Osman Gani Road, Dhanmondi Road 16, Shyampur, Dhalkanagar, Haricharan Road, Rahmatpur, Konapara, and Jatrabari.

Executive Magistrate ATM Morshed, who oversaw the operation in Region 1, emphasised the importance of maintaining clean environments to prevent mosquito breeding, saying, "The discovery of mosquito larvae at these sites highlights the ongoing risk of dengue. These fines serve as a reminder of the importance of maintaining clean environments."

In a related effort, DSCC has extended its anti-dengue campaign to educational institutions.

A special cleanliness and mosquito control campaign was conducted today in 174 primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools, as well as madrasas.

The campaign, which began on 8 July, aims to eradicate mosquito breeding sites in schools across the city.

Today's operations covered 45 primary schools, 87 secondary schools, 24 colleges, and 18 madrasas.

This initiative, driven by DSCC's health and waste management departments, will continue with further campaigns scheduled for 15 and 22 July.
