The Oman government will legalize 96,000 illegal Bangladeshi workers, said Shofiqur adding that the country also mulls over waiving fines of illegal expatriate Bangladeshis.

The Oman government will recruit Bangladeshi nationals in 12 categories, including physician, engineer, nurse and teacher.

State Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Shofiqur Rahman Chowdhury made the disclosure while talking to journalists after Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Bangladesh Abdul Ghaffar Bin Abdul Karim Al-Bulushi paid a courtesy call on him at his office on Tuesday (9 July).

The Oman government will legalize 96,000 illegal Bangladeshi workers, said Shofiqur adding that the country also mulls over waiving fines of illegal expatriate Bangladeshis.

The state minister also said that proposal will be placed at working committee for sending unskilled manpower from Bangladesh to Oman.

A joint working group meeting between the two countries is likely to be held soon.

Regarding setting up a dedicated technical training center (TTC) for Oman for providing training to workers was tabled during the meeting.

Omani government imposed a temporary ban of visas for Bangladeshi nationals except for official purposes on October 31 in 2023.
