The Appellate Division will hold a hearing on the state's appeal seeking a stay on the High Court order restoring the quota system in the first and second grades of government jobs.
Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division, Justice Ashfaqul Islam, set the date on Tuesday.
On 5 June, the High Court issued an order declaring the government circular revoking the 30% quota in first and second class public jobs illegal. Seeking a stay on the HC order, the state filed an appeal with the Chamber court on 9 June.
Meanwhile, students have launched anti-quota protests following the High Court's decision. They have been blocking roads, highways, and railways across the country since last week, demanding the reinstatement of the 2018 circular that abolished the quota system in government jobs, along with three other demands.
Starting from Sunday, students initiated a "Bangla Blockade," causing several major roads in the capital to remain closed for several hours each day. Similar disruptions have occurred on various highways and railways, causing significant inconvenience to the public.
Additionally, a complete strike by teachers, officials, and staff of public universities has created a standstill as they demand the cancellation of the universal pension scheme, Pratyay.
