The University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh is set to introduce a 'Professor Resource Pool' to address the faculty shortage in newly established universities, announced UGC Acting Chairman Professor Muhammad Alamgir.

Professor Alamgir made this announcement during his keynote speech at a workshop aimed at formulating a "Master Plan for Blended Education" to implement blended learning at the national level in higher education.

The day-long workshop took place today (8 July).

Professor Alamgir stated that there is a shortage of professors and skilled teachers in newly established and peripheral universities, which hinders quality higher education.

He announced that a resource pool of subject-based skilled and experienced professors will be created under the blended learning system to address this shortage.

This initiative aims to enhance the quality of higher education across the country, he said.

Urging all universities to implement the blended learning system, the UGC Chairman noted that several timely policies have been formulated for higher education. However, the implementation progress of these policies is not satisfactory.

He called on academic councils and stakeholders to actively engage in the execution of these policies.

The UGC is currently finalising a draft policy for 'Blended Learning' in higher education, which will combine physical and online education.

The policy aims to prevent Bangladesh from lagging in higher education, promote participatory classroom environments, ensure effective student engagement, and positively impact the teaching-learning process.
