President Mohammed Shahabuddin has expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman.

The Head of State, in a condolence message, said the death of Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman an irreparable loss to sports, specially chess.

His contribution to the development of chess in Bangladesh will be remembered forever, he added.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman died after suffering a cardiac arrest during playing in the 12th round match of the National Chess Championship at the Chess Federation Hall in the capital Friday evening.

He was 50.
