Multiple MPs of Bangladeshi descent were re-elected to continue their roles as representatives in Parliament, all representing the Labour Party

Four Bangladesh-born Labour candidates have been re-elected as Members of Parliament in the 2024 UK Parliamentary elections.

 

Tulip Siddiq secured her fourth term representing Hampstead and Highgate with 23,432 votes (48.3%).

Her closest opponent, Conservative candidate Don Williams, received 8,462 votes.

Siddiq, the granddaughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, first won her seat in 2015 and has held several key positions, including Shadow Minister for Children & Early Years and Shadow Economic Secretary.

She was also named among the most influential politicians in London on The Progress 1000 list of the Evening Standard in 2019.

 

Rupa Huq retained her seat in Ealing Central and Acton with 22,340 votes (46.8%) against Conservative candidate James Windsor-Clive, who received 8,345 votes.

Huq, who first became an MP in 2015, has now been re-elected four times.

In the 2019 election, she won with a narrower margin, receiving 28,132 votes compared to her Conservative opponent Julian Gallant's 14,832 votes.

 

Afsana Begum was re-elected in Poplar and Limehouse with 18,535 votes (43.1%), defeating Green Party candidate Nathalie Bienfait, who garnered 5,985 votes.

Begum first became an MP in 2019 and has continued to serve her constituency with dedication.

 

Rushanara Ali, the first person of Bangladeshi origin to be elected to Britain's House of Commons in 2010, has been re-elected in Bethnal Green and Bow with 15,896 votes (34.1%).

Her closest rival, independent candidate Ajmal Masroor, received 14,207 votes.

Ali's victory margin was much higher in the 2019 election when she won with 44,052 votes, amounting to over 70% of the vote share, with Conservative candidate Nicholas Stovold coming second with 6,528 votes.
