The government has extended the tenure of Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) by another year for the second term.
In this regard, the Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification on Friday (5 July).
On 30 September 2022, Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun first took charge as the country's 31st IGP, replacing Dr. Benazir Ahmed.
He was scheduled to retire on 11 January 2023, but the government extended his tenure for another one and a half years on a contract basis, which is scheduled to end on 11 July.
Abdullah Al-Mamun, a former Director General of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), had previously headed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) before joining RAB.
An officer of the eighth batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service, he has also worked in United Nations peacekeeping missions.
Born in Sunamganj on 12 January 1964, Abdullah Al Mamun completed his graduate and postgraduate studies in Sociology from Chittagong University.
