The Labour Party has won the UK general election with its leader Keir Starmer set to become the new prime minister.

"We did it," Starmer said following his party's landslide win in the election on Friday (5 July), reports the BBC.

Meanwhile, outgoing UK PM Sunak said Britain has delivered a "sobering verdict".

Many high-profile Conservative Party MPs have lost their seats, including Defence Secretary Grant Shapps, Jacob Rees-Mogg and Penny Mordaunt.

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage became an MP for the first time, and the party's Richard Tice and Lee Anderson also won.

Ex-Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn won Islington North as an independent candidate.
