The Bandarban district administration has taken over around Tk30 crore worth of property belonging to former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed.

A team led by Deputy Commissioner Shah Mujahid Uddin, along with officials from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), took the property under custody in the Majherpara area of Suwalok union. They installed a signboard and locked the garden house.

Bandarban DC Mujahid said the properties of Benazir Ahmed were taken under supervision following a court order. The income generated from these properties will be deposited into the government treasury, he added.

Due to regulations prohibiting non-permanent residents from purchasing land in hilly areas, Benazir Ahmed acquired these properties at nominal prices through a notary public. Since the land was not registered, the district administration does not possess any deeds for these properties.

Locals have alleged that Benazir intimidated them and acquired the land at nominal prices.

In the Majherpara area of Suwalok union, Sadar upazila, Benazir, his wife Zeeshan Mirza, and his daughter Farhin Rishta have purchased 25 acres of land. On this land, they have developed a fish farm, a cattle farm, and a luxurious garden house, complete with a road for access.

Despite the lack of nearby settlements, the property has an electricity connection and an air-conditioned two-story house for leisure purposes.

Additionally, in Doluchhari Mouza of Sarai union, Lama upazila, Benazir acquired four leased hilly plots totaling 25 acres.
