The tourism sector has 4% contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP) and 1.78% to employment generation.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Muhammad Faruk Khan made the disclosure at the House on Tuesday (2 July).
The minister was replying to a question from treasury bench member AFM Bahauddin Nasim with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
Faruk Khan said Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation was established in November 1972. Later the corporation started its journey from January 1973 as an autonomous body.
Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation has been playing vital role to introduce the renowned tourist places of the country to local and foreign tourists through publicity and publication.
In a bid to attract tourists, Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation established a total of 53 tourism related structures, he said adding that the structures include hotels, motels, resorts, restaurants amusement parks bars, picnic spots and duty free shops in different areas of the country.
