Flash floods from upstream have submerged Baghaihat Road in Rangamati, leaving around 700 tourists stranded in Sajek Valley of Bandarban.

A total of 125 vehicles carrying tourists are stuck in Sajek as the road link between Baghaihat and Baghaichhari was severed due to the flash floods, Moti Joy Tripura, the Joint General Secretary of the Cottage Owners' Association, said on Tuesday (2 July).

He said, "All the vehicles that arrived on Monday are still in Sajek. With the water level rising, it seems unlikely that any vehicles will be able to move today. Additionally, no vehicles from Khagrachari could enter Sajek this morning."

Baghaichhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shirin Akter said the tourists are unable to leave until the water recedes.

She also mentioned that continuous heavy rainfall in Baghaichhari has flooded the low-lying areas, affecting nearly 2,000 families. Although 55 shelter centers have been opened, no one has taken refuge there yet, she added.
