Former Foreign Minister A K Abdul Momen, MP, has said that government officials accused of corruption must be promptly dismissed from their jobs and stated that merely transferring them to different departments is not an effective punishment.

Momen expressed his views on his verified Facebook page on Sunday (30 June).

"The corrupted officials must be dismissed from their jobs," wrote Momen.

He further suggested that all properties of corrupted government officials should be frozen and sold via auction.

"A government official’s main weapon and wealth is his job. Corrupted officials are enemies of the people and the country," he added.

This statement comes in the wake of recent actions taken against government officials involved in corruption. Additional Tax Commissioner and First Secretary of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), Quazi Abu Mahmud Faisal, was transferred to Bogura amid allegations of corruption. Similarly, NBR official Matiur Rahman was removed from his position and attached to the Internal Resources Division (IRD) following accusations of significant corruption.
