The Dhaka University Teachers' Association (DUTA) has announced an indefinite suspension of all classes and examinations at Dhaka University (DU) starting from 1 July, demanding the withdrawal of university teachers from the "discriminatory and demeaning" pay scheme Pratyay.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the association also demanded the introduction of a separate pay scale for teachers and the inclusion of university teachers in the promised super-grade pay scale.

Signed by DUTA President Professor Nizamul Haque Bhuiyan and General Secretary Professor Zeenat Huda, the statement said this movement aims to protect the honour and dignity of the university teaching community and is a stand against interference in the autonomy of Dhaka University.

Under the protest programme, department heads are instructed to close departmental offices, seminars, computer labs, and research laboratories.

Academic committee meetings, coordination and development committee meetings, and question paper coordination meetings will not be held.

Faculty deans are to close their offices and suspend activities related to admission tests. Freshers' welcoming programmes will not take place, and selection board meetings will not be held.

Directors of various institutes are to close offices, classes, and exams. Evening, Friday, and Saturday classes will be suspended. Directors of research-oriented centers are to refrain from organising seminars, conferences, and workshops. Hall provosts will close their offices, and the chief librarian will close the central library.
