Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained three members of the banned militant outfit 'Ansar Al Islam' raiding a madrasa in Cox's Bazar's Chaufaldandi area.
During the operation, RAB recovered 10 extremist books, 29 leaflets, and materials for making explosives, said RAB's Director of Legal and Media Wing Commander Arafat Islam at a press briefing held at RAB-15 headquarters on Friday (28 June).
The arrestees are Zakaria Mondal, 19, son of Abdul Wahab from Islampur, Jamalpur; Niamat Ullah, 21, son of Nurul Amin from Borhanuddin, Bhola; and Mohammad Ozair, 19, son of Idris Ali from Sonagazi, Feni.
Commander Arafat Islam said, "On Thursday night, based on intelligence inputs, a joint operation team comprising RAB-15 and RAB-7 conducted a raid in Cox's Bazar's Chaufaldandi area, leading to the arrest of three members of the banned militant group 'Ansar Al Islam'."
According to preliminary interrogations, the RAB officer said the arrested individuals are active members of the banned militant organisation 'Ansar Al Islam'.
He said they were inspired to join this Al-Qaeda-affiliated militant group by the rise of the Taliban in Afghanistan.
