Dhaka has been ranked as the sixth least livable city in the Economist Group's Global Livability Index 2024, slipping two notches from last year's position of 166th to 168th.

This ranking places the capital of Bangladesh just one spot above Karachi.

The Economist Group's annual report evaluates the livability of 173 cities worldwide across five key categories: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure.

This year, Vienna, Copenhagen, Zurich, Melbourne, and Calgary topped the list as the most livable cities.

At the bottom of the list, the five least livable cities include Damascus, Tripoli, Algiers, Lagos, and Karachi, with Damascus ranked as the least livable city.

The report highlights that the overall average score for the 173 cities has slightly increased to 76.1 out of 100.

However, it notes, "the improvement is only marginal, held back by geopolitical conflicts, civil unrest, and a housing crisis across many of the cities in our survey."
