Former Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed and his family members submitted written statements explaining their positions regarding the allegations being investigated by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Both Benazir and his family members, who skipped the questioning sessions scheduled for 23 and 24 June at the ACC headquarters, submitted the written statements to the commission on Thursday, ACC Secretary Khorsheda Yasmeen told the media on Monday (June 24).

"The ACC investigating team is working on the statements," said Khorsheda Yasmeen, adding that the commission will decide its next course of action based on the team's recommendations.

When asked about NBR official Matiur Rahman, the ACC secretary said a travel restriction has been imposed on Matiur and his family members.

Regarding any external pressure related to the probe against the two top government officials, Khorsheda Yasmeen said the commission is handling the cases independently. She added that they have not sensed any outside pressure in this regard.

Earlier, Benazir missed the ACC appointment on 6 June. His daughters were called for quizzing on 9 June, which they also didn't show up for.

The ACC then rescheduled the dates to 23 and 24 June.

Benazir and his family members reportedly left the country in early May.

The ACC on 18 April launched an inquiry into allegations that Benazir amassed huge wealth following several media reports about his corruption.
