Former Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed did not appear before the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to answer about his alleged corruption on Sunday (23 June), even after the commission granted him 16 additional days for his appearance before it upon his request.

Benazir was scheduled to appear before the ACC's investigation committee at 10am regarding the allegations of amassing wealth beyond known sources of income.

ACC officials said he did not show up not has submitted any new requests seeking more time.

Investigations into the allegations of accumulating wealth beyond known sources of income against Benazir and his family members are ongoing.

Evidence of illicit wealth has also been found against him, said ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan.

Earlier, Benazir missed the ACC appointment on 6 June. His daughters were called for quizzing on 9 June, which they also didn't show up for.

The ACC then rescheduled the dates to 23 and 24 June.

Benazir Ahmed previously had requested time to appear before the ACC once, but the ACC laws and regulations do not clearly specify provisions over the second extension.

ACC Chairman Moinuddin Abdullah said if he fails to appear, it will be assumed that he has no statement to provide,

Benazir and his family members reportedly left the country in early May.

The ACC on 18 April launched an inquiry into allegations that Benazir amassed huge wealth following several media reports about his corruption.
