The Education Ministry has announced a decision to shorten the summer vacation in educational institutions by one week.
As per a release issued on Thursday, lower secondary and secondary level educational institutions will now reopen on 26 June instead of 2 July.
The ministry explained that the decision to reduce the vacation period was made to compensate for the 15-day closure of schools due to a heatwave and a cold wave earlier this year. This adjustment aims to help recover the lost academic time.
Despite the shortened vacation, Saturday will continue to be a weekly holiday along with Friday. According to the academic calendar, the Eid-ul-Azha and summer vacation in schools started on 13 June and was initially scheduled to continue until 2 July.
