At least nine people were killed when a landslide occurred at the Rohingya refugee camp in Ukhia, Cox's Bazar.
The landslide occurred in the Rohingya camps no 9 and 10 on Wednesday (19 June) morning, Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shamim Hossain said.
"We have heard that there has been a landslide in Rohingya camps no 9 and 10. Police are going to the scene. The death toll can be confirmed later," he added.
Local authorities and emergency response teams have been deployed to the scene to provide assistance and support to the affected families.
The camp, which houses hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees, has been particularly vulnerable to natural disasters due to its hilly terrain and makeshift structures.
The landslide struck early in the morning, catching many residents off guard. Heavy rainfall in recent days had saturated the soil, making the hilly areas of the camp highly susceptible to landslides.
Witnesses reported a loud rumbling sound followed by the collapse of a significant section of the hillside, which buried several shelters.
