More than 1 crore animals sacrificed this Eid-ul-Azha: Ministry

A total of 1,04,08,918 cattle were sacrificed on the first day of Eid-ul-Azha across the country this year, said the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.

“This year 3,67,106 more cattle have been sacrificed compared to last year. The number of cattle sacrificed last year was 1,00,41,812. In 2022, this number was 99,50,763,” Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Public Relations Officer Nazmul Hasan said on Tuesday (18 June).

He said this year the most number of animal sacrifices took place in the Dhaka division and the least number of animal sacrifices took place in the Mymensingh division.

According to the information obtained from the field level, a total of 25,29,182 animals were slaughtered in Dhaka division, 20,57,520 in Chattogram division, 24,26,111 in Rajshahi division, 10,08,855 in Khulna division, 4,28,438 in Barisal division, 3,93,742 in Sylhet division, 11,72,553 cattle in Rangpur division and 3,92,517 animals were in Mymensingh division.

The ministry said among the livestock sacrificed 47,66,859 were cows, 1,12,918 were buffaloes, 50,56,719 were goats, 4,71,149 were sheep and 1,273 were other animals.

Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock said this year the country had 1,29,80,367 artificial animals.
