Despite the expected traffic pressure on roads during the Eid journey, congestion is unlikely due to the development of roads and highways, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said on Friday (14 June).
"There is traffic pressure on roads, but it is far from what is called congestion. The situation of severe traffic congestion no longer exists as the country has seen the construction of the best roads and highways during the tenure of the Sheikh Hasina government," said Quader at a press conference at the AL President's office in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.
Quader said, "For the past few years, the Eid journey has been comfortable. People had a pleasant journey during the last Eid-ul-Fitr. Although there were accidents and casualties on the return journey, we are now more focused on ensuring that the post-Eid journey is as smooth as the pre-Eid one."
He urged all relevant parties to perform their duties to prevent the establishment of makeshift cattle markets in random locations, which can increase public suffering. "We are expecting rain, and if it rains, it will be difficult to avoid inconvenience. We cannot predict what will happen this time."
The press conference was also attended by Awami League Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Organizing Secretaries BM Mozammel Haque, Mirza Azam, Sujit Roy Nandi, Office Secretary Biplab Barua, Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Aminul Islam Amin, Cultural Secretary Asim Kumar Ukil, and Publicity and Publication Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap, among others.
