The Bangladesh Bank has introduced a new schedule for banking transactions to align with the government's announced office hours.
Bank transactions will begin at 10am and continue until 4pm and offices will be open from 10am to 6pm, accoriding to a circular issued by the Department of Off-Site Supervision of Bangladesh Bank on Sunday (9 June).
Weekly holidays will remain on Fridays and Saturdays, the circular added.
The revised hours will be effective starting from 19 June, post-Eid.
Currently, banking transactions are conducted from 10am to 3:30pm, with bank offices operating from 10am to 5pm. Thus, the new schedule extends transaction hours by 30 minutes and office hours by one hour.
The directive states that in accordance with the government-declared office hours, the new banking schedule will remain in effect from June 19 until further notice. This directive has been issued under the authority of Section 45 of the Bank Company Act, 1991.
